Challenges

We were asked to refit the existing laboratory and the facility had to be kept live throughout the project. Altering and adding to existing services was therefore a significant challenge.

The facilities were under a very low mezzanine structure and the ceiling was place within 50mm of the supporting joist. This meant that the routing and concealing of services was extremely challenging. The facilities had to be aesthetically pleasing for show purposes as well as fully functional.

Integra’s Solutions

There was a very intensive design phase to this project to fully ensure that every detail was tied down before the project commenced. This involved detailed liaison with the technicians in the existing laboratory as we had to ensure there was minimal disruption during the works.

The project was split into two phases to ensure the facility could continue functioning at all times.  Lighting was provided using LED panels which fitted into the ceiling grid without obstructing the ceiling void.

Air-conditioning was provided using low profile ducted units, hung below the ceiling. Distribution was via fabric ‘Lab Socks’ fitted below the suspended ceiling, giving quiet, draught free, even distribution to all areas.
