Benefit – Cosmetics Company


The brief for this project was to provide full mechanical and electrical installation services as part of the refurbishment of a grade 2 listed building built in 1912. The new occupants wanted to retain as many of the original vintage features as possible yet at the same time required a modern, compliant and functional working space.

Challenges

Due to the age of the building and the fact that we had to minimise disruption to the structure and original features, the routing of services and provision of suitable equipment was a demanding procedure.

Ecological challenges such as a loft for bats had to be carefully considered in our design. Extra care had to be taken to ensure the methods of working were the best possible to retain the original features and not cause any unnecessary damage.

Solutions

By liaising closely with the developer and the main contractor we drew up designs for the space including all services, taking into account the unique demands of a listed building.

Pipework and cabling was either concealed in floor voids or installed on surface cable trays. A new fire alarm and emergency lighting systems was provided to bring the building up to modern standards of compliance.

All works were fully completed, giving a final result that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing whilst retaining the original character and heritage of the building.
